The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) Early Response Team (ERT) training program prepares United Methodists to respond to disasters. The training covers disaster stages, safety procedures, and tech- niques for helping survivors.
About the Class:
This course will be conducted by UMCOR trainer Ken Ellis. The UMCOR mission is to be a caring Christan presence in the wake of disaster. We will learn how to help make the home safe, secure and sanitary.
About the Course: Early Response Teams (ERT) support conference preparedness and immediate response efforts in the aftermath of a disaster. Key activities for conference ERT and other response teams are supplying survivors with food, water, shelter and help with mucking out and cleaning up.
Learning includes:
- Disaster stages: Learn about the stages of a disaster, including preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation
- Safety procedures: Learn how to work safely on-site
- Early response techniques: Learn how to tarp roofs, clean out homes, and remove debris
- Spiritual and emotional care: Learn how to provide hope and compassion to survivors
- Team protocols: Learn how to work as part of a team
- The class is open to participants from all districts, but this one will be held in the South District.
