Have you ever been sitting in church and thought to yourself, “Man, I have never been more bored in my entire life.”? Yeah. We’ve been there too. It was in one of these moments of pure mind-numbing boredom that we thought, “There HAS to be a better way!”
So, we started doing our research. Has worship always been singing a couple songs, listening to a scripture passage, and then hearing someone drone on about their response to the reading? As a matter of fact, no.
In the earliest forms of worship, God spoke, then people responded. Most often, they responded with praise and singing.
Let’s take an early Biblical example. After crossing the Red Sea the Israelites didn’t drop down and quietly reflect, pondering what just happened to them. Nope. They rose up in praise! Loud, celebratory praise! They were so overwhelmed with God sparing their lives that all they could was sing in wonder.
What if everything in worship is a response to the scripture and message rather than tacking it on at the end? What if the emphasis in worship is on the praise and singing rather than on what a pastor has to say?
That’s the energy we bring to Upside Down Church. We start the service with a brief scripture reading and message. Then, we spend the rest of the time in responsive praise.
Join us every 4th Saturday of the month at 5:00 as we turn church upside down!
