New Member Dinner – August 11

by

Are you New Here? Welcome

We are so blessed to have you coming and worshiping with us at CUMC! We hope that you might be interested in taking the next step in your faith journey and become a member here at CUMC.

Becoming a member is really just making an intentional statement that this is your church and the place where you will love, grow and serve God.

There is a dinner for people interested in becoming a member at Pastor George’s home on Sunday, August 11 at 5:00 pm.

This is a great opportunity for you to get to know him better and a chance to meet other newer people to CUMC in a relaxed setting.

If you would like to attend or if you have any questions please contact Suzanne in the church office Suzanne@cumchb.org or 714-842-4461.

Wandering in the Wilderness

by

All who wander are not lost.

wandering in the wilderness sermon series

Throughout the Bible, there are several occasions where people find themselves wandering in the wilderness, including the Israelites journey to the promised land or Jesus’ temptation in the desert.

These journeys often became times of great value learning, connecting with God, and strengthening faith. Currently, our sermon series will focus on the people and lessons learned by those wandering in the desert utilizing the Hebrews lectionary.

Faith and Film 2024

by

August, 2024 | Wednesday Evenings | Movies will start at 6:30 pm

Come early at 6:00pm with your dinner for fellowship time in the courtyard.

Join us in the courtyard for a casual bring-your-own dinner at 6:00pm followed by a movie at 6:30 in room 7/8. We will briefly discuss the movie and how it applies to our faith following the movie.

Our movies this year are:

August 7 – One Life

London broker Nicholas “Nicky” Winton helps rescue hundreds of predominantly Jewish children from Czechoslovakia in a race against time before the Nazi occupation closes the borders. Fifty years later, he’s still haunted by the fate of those he wasn’t able to bring to safety. Stars Anthony Hopkins

August 14 – The Best of Enemies

The true story of the unlikely relationship between Ann Atwater, an outspoken civil rights activist, and C.P. Ellis, a local Ku Klux Klan leader. During the racially charged summer of 1971, Atwater and Ellis come together to co-chair a community summit on the desegregation of schools in Durham, N.C. The ensuing debate and battle soon lead to surprising revelations that change both of their lives forever.

August 21 – The Boy Who Harnessed The Wind

A 13-year-old boy is thrown out of the school he loves when his family can no longer afford the fees. He sneaks into the library and learns how to build a windmill to save his village from a famine.

August 28 – The Miracle Club

There’s just one dream for the women of Ballygar to taste freedom: to win a pilgrimage to the sacred French town of Lourdes. With a little benevolent interference from their local priest, a group of close friends get their ticket of a lifetime. Stars Maggie Smith and Kathy Bates

Lights for Liberty – July 12, 2019

by

On this Friday, July 12, there’s an opportunity to protest the conditions of the detention camps across the US.

Lights for Liberty: A Vigil to End Human Detention Camps, is an international event to speak out and stand up against the inhumane conditions faced by refugees at detention camps across our country.

There are two local events in our area on Friday, July 12. There’s one in Huntington Beach at 8:00 pm organized by HB Huddle, and there’s one in Los Alamitos starting at 6:30 pm that CLUE (Clergy & Laity United for Economic Justice) is promoting. We will be attending the Los Alamitos event as a group because Community UMC has coordinated with CLUE on events in the past, and the event will include speakers.

If you would like to join us. we can coordinate rides by meeting at CUMC on Friday at 5:45. There will also be a poster making party Wednesday, July 10, at 6:30. If you’re interested in making posters, please contact the church office for the location and address.
