With Christmas being on a Sunday this year we thought it would be fun to have a family friendly casual worship service with brunch in Moore Hall. We will serve a breakfast casserole, fruit and muffins, very similar to the women’s Hollywreath brunch. You can bring the casserole, which is prepared a day ahead, to one of the Christmas Eve services to put in in the church refrigerator. We will bake it Christmas morning. We need some people to sign up to bring food. We will start sign ups on Sunday, December 4th in-between services on the courtyard or email Suzanne at Suzanne@cumchb.org. The recipe will be provided when you sign up.
Please don’t feel that you must sign up to bring something. We are sure that those who can sign up will and there will be plenty for all. Christmas Day falls on a Sunday just once every 7 years, so it is a special treat to celebrate on Christmas morning with our church family!
Children are invited to come in their PJs and bring their favorite Christmas toy.

On Sunday, September 11 we’ll be welcoming everyone back to church and officially kicking off our fall curriculum. We’ll have events on campus all day! We encourage you to come and bring family and friends to any or all of these exciting events.
Our most traditional service meets at 8:00. This 45 minute service include communion, is more liturgical in nature and allows you to come, experience the community of church and then get on with your busy day.
We offer, Nursery care, Sunday School, and Youth programming at this service, so it is the perfect time to bring your whole family. On September 11, we will be having Blessing of the Backpacks at this service, so we highly encourage you to bring your backpack along so we can bless all students and teachers as they being the new school year.
Following the 9:00 service, enjoy pancakes and community fellowship to kick off the fall. This is a great opportunity for our two larger services to mingle together and a great time to talk to those people that you’ve seen across the pews but never really had the opportunity to meet.
Our choir, organ, and traditional Hymnal best characterize this service. Nursery care is available during this service as well.
4:00-6:00 in our beautiful outdoor courtyard featuring Two Sopranos and a Baritone
Pastor George will be serving tri-tip, sweet potatoes, and beans for the authentic Santa Maria Style BBQ experience. Enjoy music and a meal, while experiencing the CUMC community.

By Matt Rawle
Light. Bread. Shepherd. Life. The Gospel of John uses these and other symbols to paint a picture of who Jesus is. Through the I Am statements Jesus describes himself with rich images, showing us that he is both fully human and fully divine and calling us as his followers. In Jesus Revealed: The I Am Statements in the Gospel of John, author Matt Rawle explores the “I Am” statements in John as works of art that resonate throughout the Gospel and all of Scripture. He shows how these words point beyond themselves to the deep mystery of Jesus Christ. Join Matt on this journey and experience the profound truth at the heart of the “I Am” statements: that Jesus is light and life, and he calls us to himself and offers us the hope of resurrection.
Join us for a video and discussion of this book. The book is not necessary for the class,
it enhances what is covered in the video. If you are interested in purchasing the book you can buy at Cokesbury, Amazon or wherever you purchase books.
