Welcome David John Perez

by

Saturday Ministry Coordinator

We are thrilled to welcome David John Perez and his family to the CUMC family. David will be serving as the Saturday Ministry Coordinator, working to launch new worship experiences at our church.

David loves Jesus, his family, DJing, and music!  He is an 8-year Navy Veteran, with a background in Mental Health, and recently served as the Director of Youth Ministry for 10 years at a United Methodist Church in the suburbs of Chicago, IL. It’s a joy for his wife Sal and their family to be back in Southern California and to introduce SoCal living to their daughter, Hannah, and their son, Aiden.  Using music and creative arts to help others experience the goodness of our Creator is one of his passions, and we are all excited to see what God does through our Saturday Worship.

Fall Wednesday Night Study

by

Wednesday Evening Bible Study 7:00 pm Room 7/8 and Zoom with fall leaves and Bible

Join us as Brenda Weikel leads a class on The Gospel of Mark: A Beginner’s Guide to the Good News by Amy Jill Levine.

Walk through the Bible’s earliest source for the life of Jesus with scholar Amy-Jill Levine as she examines John the Baptizer, the Little Apocalypse, the Transfiguration, and several of Jesus’s most notable stories and parables. The Good News of the gospel message comes alive in this book as readers see Jesus as divine and human, powerful and weak, approachable yet mysterious. The book features an in-depth study of select passages and illuminates the Gospel in its historical context and as a source for the other gospels.

This class will have a video component featuring the author. The book is available on Amazon are wherever you buy your books.

This is study is both in person and online. Subscribe to CUMC HB emails to receive the online login information.

Interfaith Book Group

by

We are thrilled to be starting an Interfaith Book Group meeting on the 1st & 3rd Friday of the month from 10:00-11:30.

Our first book is “The Book of Joy” by Dalai Lama and Desmond Tutu. In this book, two men that have survived through more than their fair of suffering share their insights on finding joy, including personal anecdotes, spiritual practices, obstacles to joy and their practices for daily joy.

Our meeting place will vary between different places of worship. Please contact Suzanne at Suzanne@cumchb.org for the next meeting location.
