Festival of Lessons and Carols
Community United Methodist Church presents Christmas concert: a “Festival of Lessons and Carols” by Jonathan Willcocks, featuring the Chancel Choir, Joyful Noise (children’s choir), Celebration Singers (youth choir), Adult Handbell Choir, and Instrumental Ensemble on Saturday, December 9 (6:00 PM) and Sunday, December 10 (3:00 PM). All are welcome, the event is FREE, and no tickets are required.
“Festival of Lessons and Carols” is a fresh interpretation of the traditional service held at the Chapel of King’s College, Cambridge, England. The format of the service was created by army chaplain, Eric Milner-White, was originally presented on Christmas Eve in 1918, and has been broadcast every year since 1928 (excluding 1930) with millions of listeners worldwide.
The work combines 17 well-known carols with eight scriptural lessons, beginning with the fall in the Garden of Eden, following Isaiah’s prophecies of the coming Christ, and culminating with the story of Jesus’ birth. The congregation participates in more than half of the songs creating an interactive, compelling celebration to brighten your Christmas Season.
We hope you will join us Saturday, December 9, 6:00 PM and Sunday, December 10, 3:00 PM for this extraordinary worship experience.
