Hello OTS Supporters,

We are looking for more moving volunteers to join our team.

Our moving volunteers pick up donated furniture in Huntington Beach and surrounding cities and bring these items to our warehouse near downtown Huntington Beach. Our volunteers also deliver furniture from our warehouse to our clients that we place within Orange County.

You can help as little or as much as you want. We have our own warehouse, box truck, and dollies – you just need to show up at our warehouse near downtown Huntington Beach when we have a pick up or delivery need. If you can lift one end of a couch, you are qualified. In fact, we have a husband and wife team who have done many pick ups and deliveries with just the two of them without any problems.

Our coordination process is very simple and low-pressure. If you express interest in volunteering, we add your email address to our list of moving volunteers and when we have a moving need come up, we send an email blast out asking if anyone on the list can help. If you can help you reply with your availability, and if you can’t help you do not have to reply. If you are an individual we will team you up with another volunteer. Lastly, if over time you realize this volunteer work is not a good fit for you, let us know and we’ll remove your email address from our list, no questions asked!

Donation pickups take about an hour and deliveries to clients take about 2 hours.

Students – this is a great way to earn community service hours! One move provides a minimum of 2 hours of credit.

Retirees – can you spare a few hours a month? Bring a friend, or we’ll match you up with another volunteer, and experience the joy of helping others right here in our community.

Community and Church Groups – this is a great way to engage and help the community, and your already established teams and meeting schedule allow you to make these moves quickly and efficiently.

To get started email us at info@otshb.com or click the Volunteer button below.

Thank you for all your support,
From all of us at Off The Streets – Huntington Beach

Adult Work Team Information Meeting:

Sunday, February 11
11:15 AM in Room 8/9

With all the local fires and mudslides that have tragically hit California this past year, we are preparing a plan to send several work teams, 2-5 days, to help bring encouragement and hope by helping cleanup rebuild their homes and lives to a new normal.

If you are interested in participating this is the meeting for you.  All ability levels are needed, you just need to be able to follow directions.

We are considering a variety of trips for a variety of schedules. Trips will probably start this spring/summer in the San Diego area, although nothing is certain yet about when long term recovery will start.

If you are interested but cannot attend the meeting please let Suzanne suzanne@cumchb.org know in the church office and she will keep you in the loop.

Do you know how to make simple PowerPoint slideshows and/or like to take candid smartphone people pics?

We’re working to start a weekly personal-ministry opportunity to put important Announcements in a short “looping” sanctuary slideshow as folks gather for worship, for 5-7 minutes before the Prelude starts … the Announcements would be intercut with a few candid pics of our CUMC family doing God’s work on and off campus, or resting in the shade with a coffee.

Interested? Please email (bill.fugard@gmail.com) or call/text (714-642-6219) Bill Fugard, or catch him on the courtyard.

Do you hear God calling…

The Stephen Ministry Program was re-established here at Community United Methodist Church in 2012. We currently have six Stephen Ministers and three Stephen Leaders. We have walked with church members and non-church members during times of crisis and loss. We provide a confidential and caring Christian presence with no judgment. We listen and pray for our care recievers and let them know that God loves them even when their world is turning upside down. We also bring Communion to shut-ins and visit people in the hospital when our pastoral staff needs some extra help. Our Stephen Ministers are available to be God’s vessel in ministering to spiritual needs of the heart.

Do you hear God calling you to this type of ministry? A Fall training will be available at Mesa Verde UMC. (Date and time TBD) This is fifty hours of valuable training that will equip you in all your life-long relationships, including Stephen Ministry.

Am I qualified? You are, if you have a heart for others that are hurting and are available for meetings at CUMC the 1st & 3rd Tuesdays of the month. Blessings will abound in your life and in those that you serve if you decide to become a Stephen Minister.  If you are interested  or have questions about Stephen Ministry please contact Suzanne in the office Suzanne@cumchb.org or 714.842.4461
