Missions Commission - The Missions
Commission oversees the portion of the church budget relating to
Missionaries, both overseas and domestic.
Currently CUMC supports four missionaries: David and Lorene Pearsons
serving in the Congo, Terry and Muriel Henderson serving in Mexico,
Mary Kelly serving in Tonga, and Fred and Pat Haggard serving at the
Red Bird Mission in Kentucky.
In support of its educational role,
a missionary is invited to speak from the pulpit on Missions Sunday
annually. On this Sunday, a special collection is taken to
help advance mission work.
The commission also sponsors an
"Alternative Christmas Fair" in the fall where one may support
Heifer Project or purchase Christmas gifts from "Third World Handarts"
Heifer Project
gives people
around the world the resources such as a goat or cow to support the
needs of the village or town.
Finally the commission invites members of the congregation to sign a
"Church Wide Christmas Card" as a fund raising project.
Copies of the card are to mailed to everyone on the CUMC mailing list.
Donations received are shared between UMCOR hunger relief and Southwest Community
Center, a food kitchen located in Santa Ana. |
