Mission and Service Projects
We believe that one cannot truly experience God's power until one
puts their own body and energy on the line, working to serve God's
kingdom in this world. As a result, we aim to have several
opportunities to serve and an annual mission project.
Our annual service project is called the Sierra Service
Project. We go to Indian Reservations and work on houses, schools,
public areas and other places where our help is needed. Many
times, we have gone to Arizona and some times, a reservation in
California. When we return, we are tired and worn, but touched by the way
we encountered God when we helped others during the week.
We have worked with Sierra Service Project for many years.
Planning for the week begins in September. We must submit an
application by November 1st in order to enter the Lottery. If we
are fortunate enough to be chosen, we receive notification of our
site and date by late November. We then set about raising funds for
the trip.
Each year, we have a great group of young people scheduled to make the journey,
and we always take some adults along to drive, chaperone, and
work! Each person who wants to go must submit a "commitment"
fee and they must participate in fundraising activities and team meetings.
To raise funds, we often help serve meals or clean up the kitchen
after a church event. It's hard work but we try to have fun and we
earn some money. We also sell donuts in between the Sunday
services.
